Arriving at the Theatre

The main big black doors on the front right hand side of the Theatre will be open 30 minutes before each performance of ‘The Curious Case of the Bauble Bandit.’ You will be met by one of the Theatre Stewards to scan your tickets. You can turn left into our bar to grab some drinks and snacks or head up into the main auditorium to find your seat.

The auditorium is on the first floor of the Theatre up a flight of stairs. This can be accessed via a stair lift if necessary, but the Theatre does not have a lift. If you’re a wheelchair user and need assistance to make it up to the auditorium, please email info@codswallop.org.uk. Prams can be brought into the building but will need to be left in the bar area during the show.

When you get to the main auditorium on the first floor, you will be met by another Theatre Steward. Please have your tickets ready to check again so they can help you find your seat! Unlike Codswallop CIC’s previous Christmas performances, this one is in the round so the seating plan is slightly different to usual.

If you need to leave the room at any point during the performance, that is no problem.

All our toilets are gender neutral and are located either on the ground floor or second floor of the Theatre. There is an accessible and baby changing toilet on the ground floor.

What to expect from the show!

As with all Codswallop CIC shows, ‘The Curious Case of the Bauble Bandit’ promises to be silly and fun! We welcome all ages to enjoy this performance and expect noise and fidgeting from our often young, excited and enthusiastic audiences.

There may be occasions where the cast may come and chat to you. Particularly at the start of the performance, as the interval is ending at the start of the second act, and during the final scene. We absolutely want everyone to feel relaxed and comfortable so if you would prefer not to be interacted with at all, please let a Theatre Steward know.

All performances of ‘The Curious Case of the Bauble Bandit’ will feature live BSL Interpretation by the amazing Richard Jackson.

Sound

The performers are not amplified during the performance so the noise levels will be no louder than a human shout. There will be low level music throughout, as well as louder music playing during the opening and finale scenes. There is also the use of a small pyrotechnic device at the end of act one. This will be located near the front Fire Escape. This makes a small and quick bang/crackle noise.

Red Velvet

Lighting

Theatre lighting will be used throughout the performance which means that once the show has begun there will be low levels of light in the auditorium. There will be colourful lights moving about and flashing during musical sequences, but we will not be using any strobing effects. We will also be using a ‘blackout’ in two moments during the performance - once for a couple of minutes close to the start of act one where our actors will shine torches on their faces so you can see them (to very importantly cover the removal of scenery.) The second is at the end of act one leading into the interval and will only last a few seconds.
